He got grade C- in high school, never went to university, but he is now rich!

This story proves beyond reasonable doubt that there is no relationship between school and being rich. Meet William Kibiwot Towett, a 27 years old man from Nakuru.   Kibiwot estimates himself to be worth between 40-45 million Kenyan shillings.

How did he get rich in Kenya at 27?

Kibiwot is humble guy who grew up in Kaptembwa, one of the slums around Nakuru town. He says that it was not easy growing up. He always wondered why other people had things that he could not have. His parents could barely afford the basic needs.

After sitting for his KCPE in 1999 at Mama Ngina Primary school, he joined a high school in Baringo. He was expelled from the school when he was in form 1.

After staying at home for 6 months, he joined another school and managed to complete his high school education. Biology was his worst subject. He preferred hiding to attending Biology classes. One of his teachers even told him that he will live a miserable life if he does not get good grades.

Today, Kibiwot is a businessman and farmer. He owns a motor show room in Nakuru and engages in maize and wheat farming. But how did he start?

After high school studies, Kibiwot was employed in a car wash. It is here that he learnt more about cars and got interested in the car selling business. He bought his first car at Ksh 15 000 from his savings and some money that his late mother had left. It was an old Peugeot 206. He refurbished it and later sold it at Ksh 70 000.

Later he saved and bought two cars at Ksh 400 000 each and sold them both to a single client at 1.2 million shillings. This is how made his first million.

Kibiwot remembers vividly a client who once told him to get out of his face because there was nothing he could offer when he was cleaning cars. 8 years later, he met the guy, who now looks at him from a different perspective.

Truly, there is nothing you can’t achieve if you put your mind to it.
